Break Google Search by Searching for “Compare the Market”

Google returns “Server Error” for a simple query for the past X hours.

I was browsing through my usual Feedly SEO feeds and saw a post from Search Engine Land about it. Curious cat I am and I did try and search for the word “compare market” on Google search. Voila! It is returning a server error message.

Below is a snapshot from Search Engine Land:

Try it yourself and head to Google on your mobile or desktop and search for the word “compare the market” and you will see Google just break down. It is amazing and shocking to see Google not able to provide an answer to a query as simple as “Compare the Market”

Google has been aware of the issue since around 3:30pm EDT today but has yet to fix the issue. That is over 6 hours of time where Google cannot return a result for a pretty basic query.

Danny Sullivan of Google said on Twitter “It’s not. It’s a server error — just like it says. Server errors sometimes happen. We’re investigating.”
